Launch of Tree Initiative at PUEA

CUE gives all PUEA accredited academic programmes a clean bill of health

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has given all the 10 academic programmes that are offered by The Presbyterian University of East Africa a clean bill of health. This  means  that  the University  will have no impediments  in admitting  new students including  the  910 government sponsored  students to  be posted through the Kenya  Universities  and Colleges Central  Placement Service (KUCCPS)  into its various academic programmes.

A  report  by the Commission  for University Education (CUE)  whose contents  were reported by the Standard Newspaper  dated 18th February , 2019 says that the Commission  has rejected a total of  133 courses offered by various public and private universities in Kenya. The said rejected courses have   a cumulative enrolment capacity of 10,000 slots. CUE is the body that is legally mandated to accredit all academic programmes taught in all the Universities in Kenya.

The Standard Newspaper quoted the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Amb.  Amina Mohamed saying “The Commission for University Education is reviewing the depth and substance of university programmes to eliminate unit duplication and shallow course content.”

The report has caused jitters among Vice-Chancellors of the affected universities with some accusing CUE of being insensitive taking issue with the fact that some of the programmes are already being taught. The VCs protested that the move will set students against the affected universities.

The Commission for University Education Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi reacted to the issue by saying that there is no need for the affected universities to panic, adding that the Commission is still engaging the institutions to reach to an amicable solution.

The contents of the CUE  report  came to light  just as students who sat for the 2018  KCSE  continue   to choose their preferred  programmes  from  various  universities of their choice   through the KUCCPS portal  before  selection to various public and private  universities in due course. The portal will remain open in the month of February 2019.

The following are PUEA Academic programmes on offer that prospective students can choose from the KUCCPS portal.
