The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Amb. (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed has said that the Government of Kenya is willing to support The Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) to attain full accreditation. Hon. Amb. (Dr.) Amina made the assurance during the 9th Graduation Ceremony of PUEA held at the University grounds on Friday,14th December 2018. Her speech was read on her behalf by the Deputy Director, University Education – Ministry of Education, Mr. Isaac Thuita who represented her as the Chief Guest. CS Amina quoted the famous motivational speaker and USA preacher, Robert H. Schuler’s words, “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” She urged the University Management to, ‘put your best foot forward and your fruits will be honored and appreciated”.

The Education CS said she is happy that PUEA is geared towards finding new paths. Some of 700 graduands were conferred with Masters and Bachelors degrees while others were awarded diplomas and certificates of The Presbyterian University of East Africa by The Chancellor – Rt. Rev Julius Guantai Mwamba. In her speech, she told the graduands that, ’you are now armed with one of the most important tools needed to forge your path ahead and I am glad PUEA is geared towards finding new paths. It is not the diploma that counts – it is about what you have learned along the way and what you do with the education you have gotten in your journey to graduation today. Your future is in your hand, no one else’s’. seize this opportunity.’

CS Amina said the complex and technical world today requires education and skills that were not needed in the past adding that it is the well-educated generation of graduates which will benefit others in the future. In a reference to PUEA motto of finding new paths, the CS further quoted from Ralph Waldo Emerson, “do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

PUEA Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Mungania said reinstatement of PUEA’s Letter of Interim Authority (LIA) has cleared the anxiety among the institution’s stakeholders adding that the University Management is now fast-tracking the process for the award of a charter. Professor Mungania said the University was currently implementing recommendations made by the government in order to become a centre of knowledge, science, innovation, and research as was intended by our founders to achieve our dream of becoming the ‘Havard of Africa’.

PUEA’s LIA was reinstated by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ambassador (Dr.) Amina Mohamed and presented to the University by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta 21st October 2018. The Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to thank President Kenyatta for honoring the University by presenting the all-important document to the PCEA sponsored institution. “We, at PUEA, view this as a big form of restoration. It is a restoration of hope and a renewal of energy,” said professor Mungania. The LIA had been revoked in January this year by then the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr. Fred Matiangi, a decision the University had contested through an appeal to the Ministry of Education.

PUEA prides herself as a higher institution of higher learning integrating Christian values and learning. The University offers holistic education by laying great emphasis on quality education and producing entrepreneurial graduates who are job creators as opposed to job seekers. PUEA is currently engaged in aggressive marketing of her Masters, Bachelors, Diplomas and Certificate programmes.
